Board Member Recruitment – Volunteer Opportunity – Seeking Board Members from Diverse Backgrounds

Overview

The Light of Hope Foundation is a registered non-profit organization operating under the Government of Canada. The foundation aims to serve underprivileged communities, facilitate immigration services for refugees abroad, and provide educational opportunities for individuals who are unable to pursue education in their home countries.

The Light of Hope Foundation is actively seeking individuals from diverse cultural, racial, ethnic, professional, and experiential backgrounds to join our Board of Directors. We believe that our mission is best advanced when our leadership reflects the communities we serve.

This is a volunteer opportunity for individuals who are passionate about equity, community impact, and inclusive leadership. Previous board experience is not a prerequisite; we welcome first-time board members and will provide comprehensive onboarding and support.

Time Commitment: Four meetings per year, two hours per meeting

Term Length: Two-year term

Eligibility

  • Individuals from historically underrepresented or marginalized communities
  • Those with lived experiences pertinent to our mission
  • Community leaders, advocates, creatives, and professionals across various sectors
  • Multilingual and multicultural perspectives are highly encouraged

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in guiding the organization’s strategic direction and priorities
  • Contribute perspectives that enhance culturally responsive decision-making
  • Attend board meetings and participate in committees
  • Act as ambassadors within their respective communities

Desirable Experiences:

  • Expertise in community engagement and grassroots leadership
  • Background in finance, legal matters, fundraising, or nonprofit governance
  • Skills in communications, storytelling, or advocacy
  • Experience in program design, evaluation, or service delivery
